What is hash rosin?
Where do we start with answering this question?
Hash short for hashish is the base foundation before getting pressed into rosin. In some cases a third step called cold curing where you "whip" the pressed rosin to create a toothpaste like consistency that is a little more shelf stable for daily dabbers and easy to work with for beginners.
The next level of Hash Rosin beyond this stage would be what is considered 5-6 Star Hash called Full Melt Hash. We'll talk about that in an upcoming article to let the the general hash knowledge we cover sink in for today.
First we need to talk about the difference between Hash Rosin and Flower Rosin to make sure people know there are two different forms of getting to the end goal. When it comes to the world of Hash Rosin vs Flower Rosin these are two similar but different processes in forming extracts.
Hash Rosin is formed from the process of knocking the trichome heads off the plants via ice water extraction. Matt Rize is one of the prominent figures for popularizing Ice Water Extraction or "Ice Wax". In this popularization he is well known for his personal method of using a microplace to shred trichomes into fine sandy particles that are then categorized and quality controlled for what the final form of that strain will be destined to be.
This has brought us to the current day to day form you see of rosin majority of the time. No BHO, no chemicals. Just a little agitation of the frozen cannabis plant with ice water that is sifted into different micron bag layers before being microplaned, pressed at high pressures and into final packaging. Generally this results in a higher "quality" product in the form of product consistency, appearance, potency and terpenes.
Flower Rosin is formed by pressing flower directly. In this process the hashmaker will "skip" the agitation step to knock the trichomes off. Old school hash processes will cure or dry the hash. This old school form of hash making has been passed down generations tracing back to roots in Asia. These roots go back to Central Asia with history dating back to India, Persia, Arabia and Egypt. There are still a few brands that make old school hash or temple ball hash that you can find with just a little research of dispensary menu's in your area.
Keep exploring your terp options out there and expanding your hash knowledge.
