What does Solventless mean?
Solventless. A word seen and written across brands, marketing platforms, blog threads and social media. Don't worry if you're questioning your knowledge. We all start somewhere.
Solventless is exactly as it sounds. No solvents. No BHO. No CRC. None of the extra chemicals and processes needed to form Distillate or Live Resin. It refers to the form of Ice Water Extraction used to make hash, rosin and cold cure. More information about Hash Rosin is detailed in a previous post titled, "What is Hash Rosin?".
With solventless manufacturing only ice, water and light agitation are used to knock the trichome heads off the plant to form hash. It is then moved into packaging or into the next step of processing where it is pressed into fresh press rosin.
Most brands will then process the fresh press into cold cure rosin (sometimes referred to as rosin badder or budder) where it is lightly stirred or "whipped" to allow slight oxidization which can help stabilize and make the rosin eaier to work with.
